Always finding a way to perform, even on a desk for stuffed animals!

Practically born with the instrument in her hands, Julia began Suzuki violin studies before the age of two. Daily listening, practice, and musical games with her violin became the normal way of life. Dr. Suzuki called his method the Mother-Tongue Approach as he firmly believed that with proper encouragement all children are able to learn how to play a musical instrument from a very young age, just as they learn to speak their native language. Dr. Suzuki also wrote a wonderful book entitled ‘Nurtured by Love’ and it is this approach that deeply inspired Julia through her journey to develop as a musician and teacher.

Julia welcomes young students into her studio and works with their unique personalities to help them find their musical voice. Students quickly progress through an approach that helps them learn to think deeply and practice efficiently right from the start. The Suzuki repertoire forms the backbone of pieces young students learn, but Julia also sees each student as an individual and encourages exploration of a diverse range of styles according to their interests.

With older students, Julia guides them through a carefully selected progression of standard violin literature and loves helping them learn to communicate with energy, passion, and confidence. Performances are encouraged for a diverse range of events around the community, and participation in competitions is always supported but never a requirement.

With all ages and levels, development of strong technique and beautiful tone are emphasized in every single lesson as this is the way we communicate with our instrument. The more range and physical ease we have, the more FUN we then have playing repertoire without limitations. While much rigorous work is done, the studio is always a welcoming and SAFE environment for students. Dialogue and questions are encouraged so students learn to become independent thinkers who deeply understand the logic behind all of the many building blocks that go into becoming a fine musician. No two students are expected to think or play the same and that speaks to the immense beauty and creativity that evolves from cultivating our musical voice!
